Alexandria , December 2005

We would like to extend our warmest thanks and appreciation for your generous support. Moreover, we want to start our report with a nice event that all the children and their mothers in your SOS Children's Village Alexandria celebrated. In September one of our eldest girls got married, a very big wedding was organized in the village where all the families and the members of the village participated. Ali the attendants were glad and wished the bride all the happiness. Afterwards, she flew with her groom to their house to begin their new life.

For a long period of time no new children have joined the village; however this year we welcomed six siblings, two girls and four boys that formed the eleventh family house. Five of them are in good health and were enrolled in schools each in his/her respective grade. The sixth and the youngest brother was noticed to be very weak with problems in his walk and in manipulating solid objects. Doctors were consulted and tests were made that showed no major physical reasons but bad nutrition and lack of enough attention and care. After six months in the village, an improvement is seen and he has already joined the village's nursery with all the normal children.

The annual seminar for all the youth in the youth houses was held this year in Fayoum governorate, which is located 85 km south of Cairo. Its name is probably derived. from 'Fayoum' meaning water. It is famous of Qaroun Lake that is Egypt's largest natural salt‑water lake. The main target of these seminars is to give the chance to the youth to express their feelings and opinions in issues that concern them and. their future. They also discussed. many general subjects and of course they gained new experiences. In addition they know about and visit different places in Egypt and certainly they are very happy for that.

Eleven youth accompanied FIFA/SOS Ambassador Mahmoud El Khatib to attend a memorial match for the late former Egyptian goalkeeper (Sabet El Batal) on 4h of April. In this match children escorted the players onto the pitch. SOS children wore t‑shirts with the FIFA/SOS logo on the front and a photo of El Batal. on the back. Two FIFA/SOS banners decorated the area behind the two goalposts and the match was broadcast live on TV.

Mahmoud El‑Khatieb, was presented with the award African Legend. To congratulate him, a group of SOS Youths from Alexandria, Cairo and Tanta went to his Football School with a bouquet of flowers in SOS logo colours. They also prepared a red t‑shirt with the number "10" written on it and made out of paper reflecting the colour of his club and his number in "El Ahly team".

Each year on April 7th, the world celebrates World Health Day. On this day around the globe, thousands of events mark the importance of health for productive and happy lives. This year SOS youth attended the meeting that was held in the WHO Regional Office for Middle East and they took advantage of this meeting and learnt many new things.

As every year there are a lot of dinner invitations for the children during the holy month of Ramadan. This year there was an invitation from a group from different faculties on the beach in Alexandria where all the children enjoy playing on the sand as well as attending a party after dinner. Another generous invitation was in a restaurant where the dinner was presented with the light of candles and music. The children were fond of the place and spent a very nice time there.

It is also worth mentioning that, we renovated the entire main electrical network of the village in addition to the maintenance of the sewage one and even‑more improvement is scheduled for the next year plan.

After all we send you best regards from all the children in SOS Children's Village Alexandria and wish you a

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
